Is it Finished?Posted by Patrick Scott on August 22nd, 2008
No, I am not talking about Christ’s sacrifice? One of the hardest things in youth ministry is leader retention. People get burned out for many different reasons, some just get too busy and dont have time, some just never find true fit in the ministry and dont see the need, and then others are there for the wrong reasons. Whatever the case it throws you into a mode of questioning your own leadership skills, causing you to take inventory for your own self improvement. I was recently reviewing some material for our follow up team and came across something insightful. It had to do with the commitment of the person serving on the team. The statement was, “This is not a project because projects get finished. This requires dedication and a commitment to building relationships that will offer students a foundation, on which to run, in their pursuit of Christ. If you are looking for a project this team is not for you”. That is a straight to the point, in your face statement.
The work of Christ is ongoing and we are asking people to commit to a time period like it was a project. Even though we need to do this, it is a shame that followers of Christ need to be held to a signed paper commitment.
Does our work ever reach a completion point?
How do you hold new members of your team accountable?
